GALLERI KVIKKSØLV
An exhibition appears somewhere new with every full moon. The artists are chosen when the moon disappears.
Enter the lotteryA nomadic art gallery stages a new exhibition at every full moon, with artists selected by lottery at the new moon.
Everyone has a equal chance in participation through THE LOTTERY, picked at the new moon, if the challenge is accepted your works will be presented at full moon with cooporation from the Kvikksølv caretakers.
Every new moon, participating creatives are selected by lottery. Painters, filmmakers, sculptors, musicians, designers, strange objects and unfinished ideas are all welcome.
The concept and the gallery were created by Simen Strand and Jørgen Bryn.
The gallery houses no object or space in the physical world, it is a gallery existing just as a concept. The gallery is currently represented in Oslo and Bergen. The moon cycle is crucial to the gallery, this is the schedule the pickings and exhibitions follow. At new moon the gallery picks one or two random artists out of a bowl. These artists then have two weeks to create and present their work in the light of the full moon. It is a gallery without a hierarchy, with the fundament of being democratic and open for everyone to attend.
Photo & video residency
We currently have a photo and video residency where creatives bring their camera of choice and capture their view of the full moon phenomenon, Galleri Kvikksølv. The creative in residence has full creative freedom, from format and medium to how it is going to be presented on our Instagram and this website. Look at all our residency documentation of the previous Galleri Kvikksølv exhibitions in both Oslo (@gallerikvikksolvoslo) and Bergen (@gallerikvikksolv).

Writing residency
Regarding the writing residency, the writer also has full creative freedom. It can be a poem, critique, intuitive text, script, essay etc. The writer also has the choice to present it on other platforms, their own websites, magazines, fanzines, posters etc.
The point is, all creatives in residence shall present their view and perspective of the Galleri Kvikksølv exhibitions. It is totally up to the creative in residence how this is to be solved. We want it to be purely the creatives' vision, to make the gallery as organic and democratic as possible.
It is your view that is important and it is up to you how you want to present it.
Questions, ideas or want to get in touch? You can contact the gallery by email at gallerikvikksolv@gmail.com.
